Architecture with clarity, quality & purpose

Postlethwaite Hill Architects is a RIBA chartered studio working between Norfolk and London. Our work spans the private residential and small-scale commercial sectors - always with a focus on clarity, quality, and purposeful design. Whether we’re reimagining rural barns, designing extensions or supporting small developers, we deliver thoughtful buildings rooted in place and tailored to the people who use them.

Every project is different and so is the way we work. Whether you're planning an extension, fit-out, or a new-build home, we shape our services around your needs, your site, and your ambitions. We understand that some clients want end-to-end support, while others may only need help with a specific stage, such as securing planning permission or producing technical drawings. Our aim is to make the process clear and manageable, providing the right level of input at the right time.

Flexible Services, Focused Design

Personal, Professional & Hands-on

We’re a small architectural practice with a simple approach: every project is led by the same experienced architect from start to finish. That means no handovers, no confusion - just clear communication, consistent thinking, and a close working relationship from day one. Our size is our strength. It allows us to be responsive, collaborative, and fully invested in each brief. Whether your project is straightforward or complex, we bring care, attention to detail, and a deep commitment to quality at every stage.

This project turns a familiar South London terrace into a home with space to grow, breathe, and connect. A striking three-storey rear extension flows upward into a new L-shaped dormer, opening every floor to natural daylight and views. Inside, living spaces are arranged for family life. A generous, open-plan kitchen & dining space at garden level, comfortable bedrooms above, and a bright top-floor master suite with its own outlook over the rooftops. The design blends contemporary gestures with the traditional principles of the victorian terraced house, creating a home that feels both modern and rooted in its setting.

SW Terrace

This extension reconfigures the garden-facing rear of a semi-detached house on a quiet street in Hove. A dated lean-to is replaced with a full-width kitchen and living space, designed to maximise natural light and connection to the garden. The dining area is moved to the centre of the plan, making way for the most used spaces to enjoy the brightest aspect. A new bifold window links the kitchen directly to the garden, allowing food and drinks to be passed easily to outdoor dining areas and encouraging a more social, flexible way of living.

  • Jamie Cook, Business Owner

“Adam was essential in helping us get this challenging project off the ground. He provided invaluable advice at the start of the project and continued to be communicative and proactive throughout the process. He was prompt with his delivery of information and always took the time to explain complex issues to us in a clear way”

  • Helen, Home Owner

“Adam and Laura helped me consider how I could rework my home to make better use of the space I had. I love my garden, and their proposal really demonstrated how I could better connect the rooms at the back of the house to the outside. They were prompt in their communication and responded well to my comments on their designs.”

  • K & G, Home Owners

“PHA convinced us that we didn’t have to build an extension to get much more from our home. Their clever idea to convert the garage instead of building a new extension has given us a lot more confidence to go ahead with the build in the knowledge that it will cause less disruption to our lives. We’re really excited to move on to the planning stage and have recommended Adam and Laura to our friends.”
